Not sure I'm understanding your question, but: since most text is in mixed case which is dominated by lowercase, x-height has the largest (though not only) impact on perceived size at a given point-s…3 -

Particularly with spacing, fonts are by necessity full of compromises (even with kerning). Because fonts presumably dominate the lettering in training data for AI, I imagine there’s this funny effect…3
